The programme recruits Year 12 students at the beginning of their A-level (or equivalent) courses and provides ongoing support into Year 13. If you are a successful applicant, you will take part in many subject-specific activities that provide insight into the medical profession, support your medical school application and prepare you for starting university. These activities include online mentoring by a current Imperial medical student, numerous taster events, student conferences, work experience and a summer school.
So far, the programme has supported over 600 students to make a strong and informed application to study medicine, with many now at medical schools around the country and in their first years as a Junior Doctor. The programme is coordinated by the Outreach Team with support from the School of Medicine, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and student-run society Vision.

You may apply to a Pathways programme if you:
- Are studying in Year 12 in England or Wales, Year 13 in Northern Ireland, or S5 in Scotland (or equivalent)
- Attend, and have always attended, a state-funded school or college (non-fee paying) in the UK

It’s a very simple application form, mostly yes/no questions but it does include one longer question[s] as follows –
“Please give a brief personal statement (of no more than 300 words) explaining your suitability for the programme and why you would like to participate”
